CBD can be perceived by many to be a new trend but in fact cannabis has been used in medicine and wellness for thousands of years.
But understanding what it does and how it works can be overwhelming so we have tried to break it down a bit for you here.
The magic of plant medicine
What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol which is a natural chemical compound (cannabinoid) produced by cannabis flowers and leaves.
The most commonly known component of cannabis is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the psychoactive constituent of cannabis - the part that gets you high.
Cannabinoids are not only found in cannabis they are also found in other plants like echinacea, black pepper, and cacao. Their main functions are to provide natural protection to the plant.
Cannabinoids are also found in our bodies, these are called endocannabinoids, they provide natural protection to the functions of our bodies.
A complex system
These endocannabinoids work for us by binding to a system of cannabinoid receptors that regulate a variety of our key functions like stress, inflammation, mood, our reproductive system, and many other things including the function of our bowls! This system is referred to as The Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
By introducing the CBD compounds that mimic our system it can block the harmful breakdown of naturally produced endocannabinoids and help restore and balance and create homeostasis.
The full potential for how CBD can work to help the human body is still being examined, but in the most basic way results have been seen across areas like improved sleep, lowered anxiety, reduction in inflammation, reduction in pain and an overall sense of improved wellbeing.
Types of CBD
CBD is available in a variety of different forms and can be used in various ways.
Isolate: hemp extract that only contains CBD with no other cannabinoids.
Broad-spectrum: hemp extract that contains multiple cannabinoids naturally found in the cannabis plant, but doesn’t contain THC.
Full-spectrum: hemp extract that contains the full range of cannabinoids naturally found in the cannabis plant, including THC.
Full spectrum hemp extract CBD also contains a variety of other components that are known to be beneficial to our system including proteins, fatty acids, chlorophyll, fiber, flavonoids, and terpenes.
What type is right for you?
Depending on why you want to take CBD different products deliver CBD in different ways.
Ingestible's - tinctures, oils, capsules and gummies - things that you take orally.
Vaping - inhaling CBD using a vape pen into the respiratory system.
Topical products - applying CBD to the skin targeting specific areas of the body.
Daily CBD+MCT 600mg
Daily CBD+MCT 600mg as an ingestible oil made from just two ingredients, 600mg of full spectrum hemp extract and MCT oil (fractionated coconut oil).
MCT oil helps your body absorb CBD really well. What’s unique about MCT oil is that its chemical structure is smaller than other oils, which means your body breaks it down and starts using it faster. This ultimately means that CBD reaches your bloodstream quickly when ingested in MCT oil.
Taking oil sublingually (under the tongue) is the most effective way to get the CBD into your bloodstream - it is absorbed directly through the network of capillaries under your tongue. But it also can help with preserving potency. Your intestinal tract is a harsh environment for breaking down food and converting to waste product so bypassing that system preserves the concentration of the product.
The hardest thing about dosing is that it is highly individual. But then it would be as we all have different bodies, and different metabolisms, also our endocannabinoid system is operating at different capacities! So one size does certainly not fit all.
The widely accepted best way to get started and have success with CBD is to go low and slow. We suggest starting at 10ml of our Daily CBD+MCT oil sublingually per day and build up slowly. We provide a dose chart and integration plan with each product sold and journal sheets to help you document and keep track of how each dose is tracking against your symptoms.
We make a variety of topical products for targeting pain or problematic areas of the skin. When CBD is topically applied to the skin, the cannabinoids spread over the skin and through some of the skin’s layers. The CBD compounds bind and interact with cannabinoid system receptors located in the skin and into the tissue below. This can be beneficial where muscles and joints are inflamed and more comfort and flexibility is needed.
Concentration is important when picking a topical product. We use 500mg of CBD isolate in our Comfort Cream which we have found to be at the best strength for efficacy in combating joint and muscle pain as well as reducing inflammation in skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Our Stress Less roller has 250mg of CBD which has been known to be beneficial when applied to the temples where tension may be present or rolled directly into areas of muscular, joint or arthritic pain.
Happy Lips balms have 40mg of CBD to gently soften and soothe dry chapped lips or to provide a conditioning layer to the skin.
Our CBD is grown & harvested in the USA
Our full spectrum CBD oil is extracted via a process that uses liquid CO2. By utilizing this method not only is the CBD extracted, but the wide range of other beneficial cannabinoids including CBN (Cannabinol), CBG (Cannabigerol), and THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin) to name a few. A full spectrum CBD oil also contains a variety of essential fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, flavonoids, fiber, and terpenes which in turn provide a variety of health benefits.
Terpenes are super powered essential oils produced by the cannabis plant. They are interesting as they can influence the resulting hemp product in terms of aromas and taste, but can also promote certain heath benefits just like the regular essential oils we are used to. Some of the major terpenes found in hemp are Myrcene, Linalool, Limonene, Humulene, Caryophyllene, and Pinene. Terpenes like Linalool and Myrcene can have a calming effect, and when used in conjunction with CBD offer a much stronger sedative effect. Meanwhile, a terpene like Caryophyllene is known to have power anti-inflammatory effects, so when used in tandem with a CBD oil or topical it can have an even greater impact on those suffering from inflammatory conditions than CBD alone.
In terms of our terpene profile, our Daily CBD+MCT oil is high in Limonene which is antifungal, anti-bacterial and enhances mood and Myrcene which can be beneficial relieving anxiety and pain.
