If self-care has been on your mind but seems to always be relegated to a non-essential part of life that you might be able to squeeze into your hectic lives, don’t stress. For many of us, aspirations for taking time to care of ourselves get pushed aside for work, home, and caring for others. More and more research is showing how essential self-care is to our well-being and health. And during these particularly stressful times, it’s even more important.
The analogy of putting your own oxygen mask first in order to save others is a fitting comparison. But what does self care look like to you personally? As the name implies, it is a very personal time and one-size certainly does not fit all.
There are easy ways to begin. Try out some of these methods and see which ones make you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Some might work and others might feel like work. It’s up to you to decide. Having an actionable self-care menu of things can save you time trying to figure out what to do when you have a moment or need a recharge.
And for those that still struggle with feeling overly indulgent making time for self-care, remember, we are our most productive when we are calm and positive, not when we are stressed and feeling overwhelmed.
Self-care can involve several many facets of life. Many people envision getting a massage as self-care and although that might have restorative
benefits, there are many other areas of life that need attention, such as practical self-care (building a budget or taking a career-advancing class) and social self-care (positive interactions with others). You will want to make sure you give yourself enough time to focus on your emotional, mental and physical self-care needs.
So simple and yet so effective. There are many how-tos available on breathing to calm, soothe and move past trauma. One of the easiest is to take five minutes out of your day to slow your breath down. Take deep inhales, hold for a comfortable amount of seconds, slowly exhale fully as well. Repeat this process for several minutes.
Take action on something you’ve been avoiding
We all have those nagging things that keep us from fully being present in
the moment. Whether it’s un-filed taxes or a fractured relationship we want to mend, big and little things can weigh on our brains. Take a small step to alleviate the stress. Reassure yourself while you’re doing it that even though it’s daunting, you will get through it.
Elevate your bath
A bath is the quintessential self-care activity, right? But you can make your tub time extra-special with the right accoutrements. Our bath bombs, made with organic ingredients hold a powerful surprise inside. As the bomb
dissolves, discover Labradorite, a crystal that imparts strength and perseverance. Hold the crystal, breathe deeply and relax as the bomb’s 50mg of full spectrum CBD soothe your body.
Try meditation with a little help.
Sitting alone with your thoughts can feel unnerving. To help dip your toes into the activity, which research shows is beneficial both for emotional and cognitive health, try guided meditations that focus you on a narration and allow you to become more mindful.
Roll away the stress
Roller massage tools are all the rage right now. They offer a simple, conscious way to nurture yourself. Taking the concept one step further, our multi-use roller is a soothing tool made from a blend of organic essential oils and 250mg of Pure Cannabidiol (CBD) isolate. Created for its anti-inflammatory, pain relieving qualities, it’s not only helpful if you’re suffering from headaches or migraines, but can also promote calming feelings during stressful times. Since your skin is full of cannabinoid receptors which react to CBD when applied, this type of application is an easy way to provide pain relief. Essential oils in the roller, like lavender, rosemary helichrysum, and peppermint also help to reduce anxiety and stress.
Journaling can be a helpful self-care activity in itself, but it can also be used to monitor your progress and let you talk out your feelings on the
events of your day. If you are using CBD for stress or anxiety, it’s essential to find the right dose and be consistent with taking it. Stopping to write down how you are feeling can not only connect you to your thoughts, but can help you monitor proper dosages, so you can make necessary adjustments. We’ve designed a journal sheet to make the process easier, which you can download here.
